Louisville Be Like

Over Labor Day weekend I went on a little road trip to visit my bestie, Dawn.

Louisville!

It was an AMAZING trip, and so good to see Dawn, and some of my other friends in her hood. I really needed a fun weekend away and I sure got it. Thanks for having me, Dawn!

Here are some drunken karaoke pictures, cats, and more! Somehow there isn’t a single photo of Dawn & I together, but we were both there at the same time, swear!

I also decided a couple of weeks ago that I wanted to try Fantasy Football. I don’t know ANYTHING about football, but I love to trash talk, so Fantasy Sports seemed like a good fit. I hit up a few people who I know have leagues, but they were all full, so I did what I had to do – started my own. I invited all my besties, and we had a draft party on Labor Day. So far, I’m freaking killin’ it, 1-0. I still don’t know anything about football, but I obviously know how to assemble a winning team, so I’m not even worried. My BFF Andrew promised to Football ‘Splain me, so I’m sure I’ll figure it out and then I’ll basically be unstoppable.

Quick Like a Bunny

Just a quick post to share some of my recent artwork. I have had precious little time lately, both for making art and also for posting it here. I’ve been drawing while I eat lunch at work because most days that’s the only time I have, and I want to at least get a bit of drawing in. My daily journal has been pretty far behind – as much as a week although it’s not that much right now. I hate it when I can’t keep up! It’s so much easier to draw and write when the day is still pretty fresh in my mind. I haven’t been taking the daily journal to work with me because it’s just too big. I’m almost done with volume 10, though, and I think I’ll choose something smaller that will fit in my briefcase next.

This is a drawing in water-soluble pencil of my niece Alexis’ baby bunny, Clover.

And here’s a quick little rainy day selfie I did the other day. I love rainy days so this made me happy. 🙂 This is ink and pastel.

Rainy Day

I also want to take this opportunity to brag about my trivia team, The Constant Disappointments. We’ve played pub trivia at the Alamo Drafthouse the last couple of weeks, and we’re pretty much brilliant. We got 3rd place our first time there and FIRST PLACE the very next week. Get on our level. Here’s what a bunch of winners look like:

FIRST PLACE

That’s about it for now, kids. As usual, I’m crunched for time. Have a great weekend!! XOXO

Falling

Mike & I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary a couple of weeks ago. We decided to take a road trip together and it turned out to be EPIC. Here’s a quick recap with photos.

Day 1: We left home and headed for Toledo to visit the zoo. This zoo is pretty incredible. They have lots of animals and the enclosures are all pretty cool. I LOVED the polar bears. We got to watch them play and swim around! Their enclosure is really cool because you can watch them outside, but there’s also a building where you can see them underwater as well. SO COOL. Here’s a few of my favorite zoo pics.

Day 2: Cedar Point! It’s been about 20 years since I was there, but it’s still as cool as I remember. My body isn’t the same though – we had a blast and rode a ton of coasters, but we were back at our hotel by 4 and felt like we’d been run over by a truck. 🙂

Day 3: We headed to Cleveland and stopped at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It was actually a lo more fun than we expected!

We Rock

Day 4 & 5: We spent our actual anniversary in Niagara Falls, Canada. It was my first time there and it’s truly incredible. I took 1000 pictures that don’t even come close to doing it justice. It’s so beautiful, and literally stunning. We did the Hornblower Cruise and went into the falls which was breathtaking. And also very wet! The rush of the water all around you is deafening and it’s totally surreal.

This trip was SO MUCH FUN. We did so many cool things and saw great places and met some incredible people. It was the perfect way to celebrate 10 years of marriage. We had such a great time, and we decided to do trips like this more often.

I can’t believe it was 10 years ago – sometimes it seems much more recent and other times it feels like it’s been 100 years. I still love this guy as much as I did then. He makes me crazy sometimes, but he always makes me laugh and I wouldn’t trade him for anything. Happy Anniversary, Mikey! Here’s to 100 more.

Save the Drama for your Llama

I’ve been so busy lately I haven;t even had time to post! The good news is that I’ve been having a blast. Here’s a quick recap of the haps.

Last weekend I went to the zoo with some friends and we had a BLAST. It was a perfect day, sunny and not too hot. We got there early and beat the crowds. I don’t think things could have been any better. Well, except that we never got to see the snow leopard, but what can you do?? Photos:

We fed giraffes!! So fun. Look at this guy. So chill.

Giraffe

This llama is so cool. Plus we got to brush goats!!

Llama

A white peacock! Incredible. As pretty as the colorful ones are, this one was just beautiful.

My FAVORITE animal. The red panda. So relaxed, he didn’t even notice us. And his coat is just the most gorgeous colors. I had to paint him.

I got to spend some time with my besties, and we had a ball. I LOVE this picture of these 2, it makes me happy. Plus, another one of my faves. 🙂

My BrosCUSS

The Peaches came to visit!! Man, I miss these kids. Peach Pit was tired, and he’s still a jerk. Somehow, he’s the most endearing jerk I’ve ever met.

Peaches!

My friend Clovis invited me to a baseball game this week. I’m not a fan, but he had tickets for the party deck which means free food and free beer, so I was in. We met the mascot, Moe Skeeter!!

It’s been such a crazy couple of weeks, and I truly don’t think I’ve ever been so stressed out. I could not have gotten through it without my superstar husband who has picked up so much slack it’s ridiculous and never complained once. And I could not have done it without these fine people pictured here. My family and my friends are outstanding and I love each and every one of you more than I can even express. XOXO

I’m officially on vacation right now, and Mike and I are celebrating our 10th anniversary this week by visiting Niagara Falls and a ton of other great places. We’re leaving on Sunday morning and I’m beyond excited. I can’t wait to get away and to not be here for a while. We’re also hitting Cedar Point, the Toledo Zoo, Marineland, art museums and so much more. YAY!!!

Creepy Leering Wink

It’s Friday, and this has been the longest, most stressful week that I’ve had in a while. I’m taking a much needed break to answer this week’s Friday Five questions, though. Enjoy!

  1. What were the circumstances surrounding your last reception of unwanted attention from strangers?  I got hit on by a creepy old guy at my mom’s apartment complex a few months ago. I guess the circumstances are that I was there and so was he and he asked me if I wanted to sit on his lap with a creepy leering wink, and I said No Thank You.
  2. How do you feel about being flirted with?  It completely depends on the circumstances (see above), but in general, I enjoy playful flirting.
  3. Whose attention would you like a little more of?  There’s nobody in my life that I’d call out as not paying me enough attention. I feel like the people that I care very much for pay as much attention to me as they are able to with the many other things that they have in their lives, and I sincerely hope they would all say the same about me. I guess what I mean is I think everyone does their very best and I’m completely happy with that.
  4. How’s your attention span?  It depends on how interested I am, but for the most part I think it’s pretty good.
  5. Who in your life seems to crave the most attention? This one is easy. BUFFY LOUISE. She’s sitting on my desk right this minute waiting for me to finish so she can curl up in my lap:

Buffy Louise

So that’s the Friday Five! Only a few more hours in this wretched week and then I get a tiny bit of freedom before next week begins.  I hope you have an incredible weekend and that all of your dreams come true.

Here’s a quick little video I took last week just for giggles. Nemo is scared of the vacuum, so he was snuggled on my lap so I could console him. 🙂

“Heeeeerrree’s Johnny!!”

Another crazy busy weekend, so buckle up, kiddies.

Friday: Work, quick run around the neighborhood before it got too dark. It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve run. I decided to take a short break because I was having pain in my knees pretty consistently. When I ran on Friday, I had no pain, and it felt really easy. My pace was fast as well. So I think the break was exactly what I needed. I think I’ll keep the running to once or twice a week going forward and supplement with some other types of cardio. Tonight, I made portabello mushroom risotto and my mom came over for dinner. I spent the rest of the evening at my art table working in my Yearbook Journal. Behold:

 Meow

Saturday: Mike & I got up and spent most of the day running a million errands. We got an oil change for his car, then did all the random shopping we needed to do. I bought a new winter coat that I really like, so I’m excited about that. We also finally picked out pillows for the new couch! We got some really nice bright colors, and they look great. Saturday night, we hit the brand spanking new Alamo Drafthouse downtown to see The Shining. The movie was not my bag, but the theater is pretty cool. They have so many great beers, and the menu is really fun. Mike & I shared an endless popcorn and some cheese fries, and I also got the New Holland Poet Oatmeal Stout Milkshake. It was pretty incredible. 🙂 This was the theater’s staff training days weekend, so everything was half price (except alcohol). The service was pretty bad, but the staff was super nice, and I know they will get it together with a bit more time. Overall, I enjoyed it.

Sunday: I slept in, did some drawing in my daily journal book, and then in the afternoon we headed back to the Alamo Drafthouse. The journey was perilous as there was a thunderstorm with heavy rains and high winds. There was even a lightpost that had fallen into the street downtown!! We made it though, this time to see Singin’ in the Rain. It was my first time seeing it, and it was really great. I enjoyed it. We ordered real food this time – I got a Royale with Cheese and a Beets & Oranges salad. I enjoyed both. Mike got a pizza and chips with queso dip and he liked both as well. As an added bonus, the service was PERFECT. They definitely turned things around and we were impressed. Oh! I also tried the Atwater Vanilla Java Porter Gingerbread Cake. It was tasty! After the movie, we went to Bell’s for trivia. We didn’t win, but we had a blast, as always. 🙂 When we got home, we discovered that our patio umbrella was snapped in half from the wind. Luckily, that was all the damage we had and we didn’t even lose power, so we were very lucky.

 Sad Umbrella

Sometime during the weekend, we also decided that we will host both Mike’s AND my family here at our house for Thanksgiving this year, which is both exciting and terrifying. Hopefully I will get some help with all the cooking since I don’t have that much experience cooking for 20+ people. Either way, it will be an experience!

I hope your weekend was as fun & exciting as mine was! Have a great week!

Familiarity

This week’s Friday Five is all about who and what you know. For me, the answers are Nobody & Not Much. 🙂

  • How familiar are you with the plants and trees in your area?

Not at all. I couldn’t tell you what kinds of trees are in my yard even. I’m better with flowers.

  • How familiar are you with the wildlife in your area?

Pretty decent. We have tons of wildlife right in our backyard. We regularly have squirrels, chipmunks, bunnies, possum, and deer. Behind our backyard is a vet’s office and kennel, so in the evenings and on weekends, they are always walking the dogs back there, which is fun.

  • Can you name the makes and models of five of your friends’ cars without looking?

Probably not. I’m worse at cars than I am at trees!

  • How many of your co-workers’ spouses and kids can you name?

This is a tough one for me since I work at home and my co-workers are hundreds of miles away. So again, I would suck wind at this.

  • If you had the radio on whatever station is playing current hits, how would you do at naming the songs and artists you heard?

Wow. I’m super old so all this new fangled youngster music is foreign to me. I wouldn’t do very well at this either. If it was the classic rock station, It’d be on like Donkey Kong, though.

Quick Photo Update

I’ve been really busy the last couple of weeks, plus things have been exceptionally boring. I don’t have a lot of time, but here are some quick photos at least so you can see what I’ve been up to.

Me & Mikey

We had dinner with Mike’s parents a couple of weeks ago and his mom took this to try out her fancy new camera. We look cute!

Shrimp Thief

I made shrimp for dinner last week, and I turned my back for 2 seconds. Which is all Nemo needs to make his move. Shrimp Thief!

Abbey

My mom had a knee replacement this week, so while she is in the hospital I’ve been taking care of her cat, Abbey. She doesn’t like being alone, so I try to hang out with her as much as I can.

 Free to Live

I had some time to work in my Yearbook Journal last week and this is one of the pages I worked on. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

So that’s it for now. Hopefully I’ll have something more exciting to blog about soon. I hope your weekend is outstanding.

Journal Junk

Just a few quick drawings from my journal. First, My friend Andrew & I met for a beer last week. This is ink & colored pencil.

Andrew & I

I did a watercolor sketch of my mom’s calico cat, Abby. I think it turned out pretty good.

Watercolor Abby

Here’s another ink & colored pencil drawing. Mike & I went to a movies in the park event last week to see The Goonies. It was less than stellar. It was freezing, the mosquitos were SWARMING, and then we couldn’t hear the movie. We left 10 minutes in & came home and watched it. 🙂 This is my drawing of miserable Mike at the movie, though.

 Sad Mikey

That’s it for now. Nothing too awful exciting happening around here at the moment. I hope you have a great week!
